My teaching experience has been an integral part of my academic journey, allowing me to share my knowledge and passion for geotechnical engineering while mentoring students. During my master’s at National Taiwan University, I assisted in geotechnical laboratory courses, guiding students in conducting advanced soil testing and understanding fundamental soil mechanics principles. As a Ph.D. student at Virginia Tech, I have been actively involved in teaching assistant roles, helping students grasp complex concepts in foundation engineering, numerical modeling, and geotechnical earthquake engineering.

CEE 3514: Introduction to Geotechnical Engineering

Every part of our built environment is connected to the earth in some way, which is why understanding and accounting for the behavior of soil is vital to civil engineering design. This course will help you gain a basic understanding of geotechnical engineering as well as the properties of soil and their application to civil engineering design. The topics covered include: engineering properties of soils, classification of soils, soil strength and compressibility, as well as a brief introduction to the design of retaining walls and shallow foundations.
